Equity at the Center of California’s Clean Energy Future

About

The Energy Transition Collective (ETC) is a coalition of community-based organizations, small businesses, and individuals advocating for energy policies and programs that prioritize the well-being of low-income households in California.
We work to ensure that California’s clean energy transition is inclusive, equitable, and practical, centering the voices and needs of those most impacted by environmental and energy injustice.

Our Mission

We exist to ensure that California’s clean energy future is inclusive, equitable, and practical—putting frontline communities first.

The Vision

We envision a California where every household—regardless of income—can access safe, affordable, and sustainable energy solutions that improve their quality of life and community resilience.

Why Our Work Matters

California leads the nation in clean energy, but low-income households face the highest costs, weakest infrastructure, and least access to upgrades. ETC was founded to change that.

“We need to stop designing clean energy programs for the ideal customer. Let’s start designing for real people.”
Ortensia Lopez, Executive Director

What We’re Asking For

ETC is calling for bold, practical shifts in how California approaches energy equity. We advocate for inclusive policy design that reflects the real-world barriers low-income households face—not just theoretical models. We push for targeted investment that sends funding directly to home upgrades and community benefit, rather than getting stuck in administrative overhead. And we emphasize community engagement as a non-negotiable—because trusted local voices must be involved in shaping the energy transition from the ground up.

Let’s Work Together

We’re building a movement rooted in trust, collaboration, and equity. Whether you’re a community leader, policymaker, contractor, or advocate—reach out. We’re always looking to partner with people who share our commitment to making California’s energy transition work for everyone.
